Abstract

BACKGROUND AND OBJCTIVE:
Research is a systemic investigation and study of materials and sources in order to establish factsand reach new conclusions. It involves collecting and analyzing data, interpreting and drawing conclusions from the data and communicating findings through reportsand papers.The objective of study was to see attitudes and perceived barriers towards research among
medical students of Quaid e Azam Medical College Bahawalpur.

METHODS:
A cross sectional designed study was conducted at Quaid-e-Azam Medical College, Bahawalpurfor the period of six months from April 2024 to September 2024 where a sample of 205 medical students was taken from all classes by using Non probability convenient sampling technique.
Data was collected by online pre formed questionnaire consisting of socio demographic and other variables. Frequencies and percentages were calculated and presented in the form of tables
and graphs. Test of significance was applied.
RESULTS:
Regarding awareness of the research 84.4% students had the knowledge of research and 94.6%
of respondents found it helpful. About 28.8% students ever participated in the research. The
barriers found were 87.3% lack of education and skills while 40% lack of interest for future.
Significant relationship was found between academic year and participation in research and
participation in research and receiving credits in exams.
CONCLUSION:
Most of the students show positive attitudes towards research. The barriers found were lack of
education, skills, opportunity and personal interest.
